John Harrison's many innovations, he came with the 'grasshopper escapement, explained Dr Taylor, based on the device from Harrison to rotational motion into a pendulum motion to turn timing. No one knows how aGrasshopper escapement works, so I decided to turn the clock in and out, and instead of escapement 35 mm in width, is 1.5 m wide, he said. He calls the new version of the escapement Chronophage time (time-eater), a terrible beast which drives the clock, literally eating. For more information visit www.corpusclock.co.uk
